A new peer-reviewed publication from our NEXOGENESIS partners, KWR & NTUA, titled “A methodological framework for assessing the coherence of Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems nexus policies: Illustration and application at the river basin level,” has been published in Environmental Science & Policy.
Co-authored by Caro Mooren, Chrysaida-Aliki Papadopoulou, Stefania Munaretto, Katerina Levedi, and Maria Papadopoulou, the paper introduces the Policy Coherence Assessment Framework (PCAF)—a novel approach to evaluate and compare nexus-related policy goals across sectors. The framework is designed to identify policy synergies, trade-offs, and gaps in alignment, promoting more effective and integrated decision-making.
The methodology is applied to the Nestos River Basin in Greece in the framework of the NEXOGENESIS project and demonstrates how PCAF can be used to improve the coherence of water, energy, food, and ecosystem-related policies at regional levels.
