The NEXOGENESIS project continues to support the implementation of its integrated nexus approach across five diverse case studies, strengthening systems thinking beyond water-focused perspectives. The project highlights progress in co-creation, multi-level stakeholder collaboration, and the contextual adaptation of the NEPAT.

By broadening the scope of nexus discussions, fostering feedback between local and national actors, and applying flexible engagement strategies, NEXOGENESIS has successfully tailored its approach to different regional needs. Key developments include:

  • Nestos/Mesta River Basin (Greece–Bulgaria): Stakeholders signed validated policy packages and endorsed governance roadmaps. Co-creation processes continue alongside efforts to secure funding mechanisms and integrate findings into other regional initiatives.

  • Lielupe River Basin (Latvia–Lithuania): A collaboration agreement was signed, laying the foundation for continued development through synergies with complementary projects.

  • Lower Danube/Jiu River Basin (Romania): Two important agreements were secured: one with the Romanian Government’s SDG department, and another with a Romanian university to incorporate the NEPAT into teaching activities.

  • Adige River Basin (Italy): The “Adige Water Fair” brought together a wide range of stakeholders in a two-day event aimed at improving water management practices through open dialogue.

  • Inkomati-Usuthu Water Management Area (South Africa): Stakeholders expressed their willingness to collaborate in future efforts, paving the way for continued engagement.

These achievements reflect NEXOGENESIS’s commitment to collaborative, context-sensitive policy development that supports sustainable resource management across sectors and regions.
