We are pleased to highlight a new scientific contribution from our partners at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education and the University of Thessaly. The article, titled “The historical role of system dynamics modelling in understanding and supporting integrated natural resources management,” was published in Cambridge Prisms: Water.
Authored by Janez Sušnik and Nikolaos Mellios, the paper offers a comprehensive review of system dynamics modelling (SDM) over the past six decades. From its origins in early global models to its current applications in Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) nexus governance, the study illustrates how SDM has evolved into a key tool for integrated, participatory resource management.
The publication also outlines future opportunities for SDM, including deeper stakeholder engagement, integration with AI and GIS technologies, and greater use in educational settings. These insights align closely with NEXOGENESIS’s mission to enhance systemic, data-informed decision-making for sustainable resource use.
