Exactly one month ago, from July 1st to July 4th, the NEXOGENESIS consortium gathered in Jurmala, Latvia, for the project’s final event. Kindly hosted by our partners at BEF Latvia, this four-day event marked the culmination of four years of collaboration, research, and innovation in addressing the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus.

The first two days were dedicated to closed-door sessions for project partners. These sessions provided an opportunity to reflect on the key achievements of the project, including progress made across our case studies and lessons learned from the co-creation processes. Partners also used this time to finalise ongoing activities and discuss the project’s legacy—ranging from intellectual property matters to upcoming scientific publications and guidance materials.

On the third day, the event opened its doors to local stakeholders for a session titled “Beyond Waters: Rethinking Nexus Integration and Addressing Systemic Concerns.” Stakeholders from across Latvia and beyond joined the discussion, bringing valuable regional perspectives to the table. Later that day, the consortium had the pleasure of welcoming Giulio Pattanaro, European Commission Project Officer, who shared insights into the next steps for sustaining the project’s impact.

To wrap up the event—and the project—partners visited the Lielupe River, one of the central sites of our Latvian case study. The excursion included a trip to Bauska, where the river begins, providing a symbolic and scenic conclusion to both the event and the NEXOGENESIS journey.

We thank all our partners, stakeholders, and supporters for making this milestone event a meaningful and inspiring conclusion to an ambitious and impactful project!
