The first NEXOGENESIS stakeholders’ workshop took place on May 19th, 2022 in a hybrid format physically in Craiova, Romania and on Zoom platform. Almost 40 stakeholders from local, regional and national levels received information on NEXOGENESIS project objectives, approach and aimed results initiating an open dialogue on challenges to be tackled in the regional context for each WEFE sector. First elements for the development of a Jiu case study conceptual map and specific requirements to be considered for the development of the NEXOGENESIS digital self-learning tool were shared and discussed towards common understanding and agreement. The workshop was an opportunity to tackle how the project can support Romanian decision makers to implement sectoral public policies on water use and sustainable local development with an inter-sectoral approach and based on the dialogue and cooperation of all stakeholders – authorities, the economic environment and citizens. Next steps include the continuation of the project team’s presence in the region for identification of relevant WEFE nexus interlinkages and critical aspects to be considered in the design process, including interactions, synergies and trade-offs in the local context. Validation of Jiu CS conceptual map and relevant indicators are planned for the second workshop to be organized in the region in October 2022, more information will be shared in due time.

The meeting was organised by Business Development Group Romania with support of River Basin Administration Jiu, Administraţia Naţională Apele Române with participation of Janez Susnik (coordinator of the NEXOGENESIS project) from IHE Delft, KWR Water Research Institute and EURECAT.
